Overlooking Lake Garda and immersed in the most authentic identity of Pacengo,
the new square is a redevelopment project that brings together memory, landscape, and everyday life.
An open space for both the local community and visitors, where every element tells the story of the deep connection between the village, the lake, and its centuries-old history.
Pacengo is an ancient village on Lake Garda that developed along the historic Gardesana road between Lazise and Peschiera. A place that still preserves today the charm of the lake, the historic villas, and the traditions that have accompanied its growth over the centuries.
The earliest evidence of human presence dates back to prehistoric times.
Over the centuries, Pacengo has become an important lakeside center, preserving a history made up of trade, navigation, faith, and relationships with the Garda area.
Architecture, landscape and memory
The new square stems from the desire to create a contemporary space capable of engaging in dialogue with the history of Pacengo. Materials, forms, and pathways have been designed to evoke the lakeside landscape, the terracing that characterizes Lake Garda, and the local building tradition.
The paving, the stone elements, and the layout of the open spaces help create an elegant and welcoming environment, designed to be enjoyed throughout the year by residents and visitors.
The natural slope toward the lake has made it possible to transform the square into a true panoramic viewpoint. From here, the view opens onto the Garda horizon, offering perspectives and glimpses that enhance the relationship between the village and the water.
Among the most representative symbols of Pacengo is the Guglia, a historic lookout tower that has watched over the lake for centuries. The new square ideally takes up this panoramic vocation, transforming the public space into a place of contemplation and meeting.
Arpège doesn’t resemble anything you’ve already seen on Lake Garda — and that’s no coincidence. Every material was chosen because it tells something. Nothing is decoration.
The project was born from the desire to give Pacengo a place worthy of its history: not a structure imposed from the outside, but something that grows from the place itself, from its materials, its light, its rhythm.
One of the inspiring themes of the project is the memory of the ancient four parish churches that shaped the religious and social history of Pacengo: San Giovanni Battista, San Daniele, San Pietro and Santa Maria.
For centuries these places have represented points of reference for the community. Today their memory is reinterpreted through symbolic elements integrated into the square, creating a dialogue between past and present.
Fountain, planters, stones and pathways are not simple architectural elements. Every detail evokes the history of Pacengo and its ancient parish churches, turning the square into an open-air story to discover while strolling.
At the heart of the project emerges a call back to the town’s origins. The ancient name “Pacingus”, together with the historical reference to “Bor”, bears witness to an identity that spans the centuries and continues to characterize the relationship between the community, the lake, and the surrounding territory.
The new Piazza of Pacengo is not just an urban redevelopment project: it is a place for meeting, connection, and discovery. A space that restores centrality to the village and invites residents and visitors to experience the area through its history, landscapes, and most authentic identity.
